Questions & Answers
Are the 2into1 exaust better over all than say performance duals on my stock 2008 xl1200L?
In terms of exhaust performance, yes - two-into-one exhausts will delivery better performance gains that two-into-two exhaust systems. In fact, it's for this reason that many aftermarket dual exhaust systems actually include some sort of crossover plumbing to help improve exhaust scavenging over a true dual (wherein the pipes don't connect) exhaust layout. In fact, if you were to have a look at superstock class drag racers, you'll notice a large majority of them use a two-into-one exhaust layout.
Of course, in order to get the biggest possible engine performance out of your bike, we highly recommend that the engine's fuel delivery be tuned accordingly to work with the new exhaust. It's the best way to get the most bang for your buck. For the 2008 XL1200L, Cobra makes an Fi2000R that's simple to install and setup for this exhaust. Best of all, the included instructions explain clearly how to go about adjusting the tuner for maximum power and throttle response.
