I have a 1988 fxlr with a single wire rear turn signal on both sides. How to I hook up my new 3 wire rear turn signal.

The '88 FXLR provides a rather interesting layout for the rear signals since each one is fed by a single wire which means each signal's chassis is grounded straight to the frame. Since the signal we have on offer are of a universal design, you'll need to wire the signal's ground directly to signal itself. Preferably, against the threaded portion so it'll have continuity with the bike's frame. The two remaining wires, you could attach both of them to the single lead coming off the bike's harness to power the light. It would be brightest that way since you don't have a running light option. Or, if you prefer, you could just use one of the wires and tape the other one off, but it won't be as bright of a signal light. In either case, the light would function as needed.

use the (1) wire that makes the bulb brightest. If you use both simutaniously you will shorten bulb life significantly
