It really depends on how you ride. For a 111-cubic-inch S&S engine, a 48mm throttle body is generally better than a 42mm for maximizing high-RPM power and performance, as the smaller 42mm can act as a restriction on such a large displacement engine. A 42mm setup might offer better, snappier throttle response at low-speed cruising. So, if you're on the gas all the time, go bigger, if you're spending most of your time cruising around, go for the 42 instead.
