On a 1985 Sportster, there was only a shim the size of the inner spring as a bottom collar. When I replaced the shoulderless valve guide with a new shouldered one, the shim would not fit. The new collars fit perfectly over the guide, allowing measured shims to install below it, correcting the valve height problem. Great product!
