Bought the Koso DL-04B for my 2016 Yamaha bolt and I can say that I'm very impressed with it fit, good easy installation and as for functionality I think it's a great gauge, you finally have RPM gear indicator, temperature of the engine, just looks awesome over the factory gauge.

There is no indicator for heated grips on this particular instrument.

how does the fuel gauge read?

I have a 2014 yamaha bolt and it just has a low fuel light so how would it read how much fuel is in the tank, and also same question about how does it know what gear i am in?

Even though that information isn't displayed anywhere on your bike's OEM gauge, all of that data is fed to your bike's ECU. Things like throttle position (usually a percentage of maximum available twist), battery voltage - all of it, is constantly being sent to the ECU. This particular instrument has the ability to pick up that data and display it to you.
