Located on the side of the carburetor, the air cut off valve prevents a lean fuel mixture when decelerating and consequently - backfiring. It works by temporarily closing the pilot jet airway to provide a richer mix as the throttle closes. If your machine has a tendency to backfire, this may be one solution for solving your problem.

Do I need to purchase 2 of these kits or just 1 for a 1995 Honda Shadow?

In the case of the Honda Shadows, both the 750 and 1100 cc variants, these kits come with enough parts to service two carburetors. What you see photographed when you select your bike from the fit menu is exactly what you'd get.

Only kits that fit 1997-2003 model year Honda VT1100C Shadow models include two diaphragms. All other kits are shipped with only one diaphragm.
