Still The Best!

I've been riding Harleys for over 50 years. Every time I've had to replace a clutch , I went with Barnett , and I have never had one fail to perform.

Questions & Answers

Are the friction places carbon fiber or kevlar

The friction material on these clutch plates is aramid fiber, which is the same material used in Kevlar.

By Tom

Will the friction plates work with stock steel plates?

Yes, absolutely. Every Barnett Aramid Fiber Clutch Friction Plate Set we sell is specifically designed to work with all stock, or stock replacement, clutch components, including the steel separator plates.

By Tom

Is the friction material supposed to be that thin ?

As it were, no, there's not much thickness to the friction compound that lines any clutch plate - be it for an Ultra Classic like yours, or even something for a car with a standard (stick) transmission. This is due to the fact that, most of the time, the clutch plates aren't actually sliding past each other while you're moving, they're locked in place thanks to the squeezing force brought on by the clutch springs, pressure plate, clutch basket &etc. There's actually quite a bit of surface area, if you were to cut out each dot on the friction plate and lay them all in a square, you'd be surprised at how much area they actually cover. Hence, the lack of need for thickness. That, and making clutch plates with thick pads of friction material is actually counter-productive in that, the material is more likely to be sheered off when slipping the clutch. We've had great success with Barnett clutches and they're built to be just as durable, and arguably more durable, than the stock clutch components they replace.
