Assuming your bike's still using the OEM-size rear tire, clearance will be minimal, but not so little that the tire rubs the inner rear fender. The exact number isn't available from Burly, but I can tell you that these shocks are built and valved in a way so as to prevent tire / fender contact on any machine that you select from our fit guide that still has the OEM-size rear tire.

I feel you on t he spring compression tool matter! For cruising around town, these shocks will do the trick. If you're more of a cross-country or ride 2-up more than half the time, like the ol' "no replacement for displacement" - it's difficult to make up for shock length when it comes to comfort as well. In other words, you'll want to stick with a stock length shock if you ride fully loaded more often than not. But for your needs, (what you're telling me) this shock will get you tidied up for your lowered needs without having to worry about the tire rubbing the inner rear fender (provided it's stock-sized tire, of course!). These shocks are turned and sprung to make the best of a lowered rear end without sacrificing much in the way of ride quality.

The OEM shock on your machine measures 13.1" long so this shock will safely lower the rear end of your machine a smidge less than one inch.

Before I answer your question, first, you should know that you must remove the lowering blocks if you expect to use any kind of shocks that are shorter than stock. The shocks are only test-fit on machines of the OEM configuration and, as such, you will find that the rear tire rubs up the inner rear fender. So please, do not use these shocks with those lowering blocks. I know you said compared to stock, but I just want to be absolutely sure this point is clear for the sake of your safety. With that out of the way, the OEM 2005 Harley Davidson FLHTCUI Ultra Classic Electra Glide comes with 13" long rear shocks. The Slammer shocks from Burly are 10.5" long, so you can expect the seat to sit a little less 2.5" lower than stock. To lower the front end, you have two options: Legend AXEO Fork Cartridges which are truly superb in terms of feel and performance. We have them with a 1" lower than stock length for your bike. JRi Suspension Fork Cartridge Kit in 1" or 2" lower-than-stock lengths. The JRi stuff is also an excellent choice since it too, does well when lowering your bike without making things feel rough through the handlebars. Either of those cartridge kits combined with those shocks would make for a bike more suitable to your needs.

The 2004 Wide Glide came from the factory with 12.6" long shocks. Since these are 10.5" long, you can expect your bike to sit about 2" lower than stock after installing these shocks. All Burly Slammer shocks are designed to safely lower the rear end of your bike as much as possible without the risk of the tire rubbing inside the fender, even when fully compressed.

It's actually slightly more than that since the OEM shocks on your machine measure 13" eye-to-eye from the factory. So, you'd get a 2.5" drop with these shocks. That would be the biggest drop you can get, safely, when everything else remains stock on that particular bike.

I feel ya'! So long as the rear fender is stock, you shouldn't have any problems fitting the shortest sock to your bike. Burly's Slammers are probably the closest you can get to the ground, safely - without constantly rubbing that rear tire against the inner rear fender. Obviously, any shocks that are lower than stock are going to be helpful. I would strongly recommend that you do not combine a lowering kit with shorter shocks as you'll probably end up with the rear tire rubbing against the inside of the rear fender. In terms of lowering the bike overall, the Slammers are going to be your best bet. Of course, whether or not that's enough for her needs is really hard to say. For best effect, you'll want to lower the forks, too. That way, you maintain stock steering geometry while at the same time. The only option, at the moment at least, for that bike comes in the form of Progressive's Fork Lowering Cartridge Kit. With that, you'll have a bike that's lowered evenly and significantly easier for her to get along with under all riding conditions. Plus, with both ends the suspension's way better than stock, too, ride quality will also be awesome.

If you're looking for a smoother ride than stock, these shocks probably aren't going to be much of an improvement. They could be a slight improvement, especially if you're still riding on the original shocks and they've never been serviced. This is due to the fact that they're valved to work with a bike that's lowered without compromising the ride you have on a bike that's otherwise stock. If you're after an overall better ride, then your best bet is to stick with aftermarket shocks that are of the same length as the OEM parts on your bike (13" in the case of the 2004 Harley Davidson FLTR Road Glide OEM shocks). With that kind of setup, you can certainly expect a ride that's much, MUCH improved over the stock suspension components.

Without knowing what machine it is that you have, I can't say for sure. I can tell you that the included instructions will indicate exactly how to setup the shocks for your particular weight. Since you're on the lighter side, you won't have any problem getting the ride height correct for your weight.

Yes, you're going to lose ground clearance. For many riders, this isn't that much of a problem. If you're just cruising, they're great, but if you're an aggressive rider that enjoys twisty roads, you may want to consider standard-length Harley Road King shocks instead of these. The reduced ground clearance can be an issue for some guys.

You won't be able to adjust preload on these shocks by hand, however, they do ship with a C-spanner wrench which you can easily carry with you in your saddlebags. With that, you'll easily be able to adjust preload whenever you want.
