I have a 1999 polaris sportsman, it's a 3 position key, and it's used to start it, will this key work?

So long as your machine has an unmodified OEM ignition switch, if you were to select the 1999 Polaris Sportsman 500 4x4 from our fit guide, you'd receive the correct switch to fit your machine. It's designed to be a plug-and-play replacement for the original Polaris ignition switch.

Yes, there should be no problems. Just remove/disconnect the current switch and replace it with this assembly.
