Excellent option to replace an oem speedometer

This is a good OEM replacement. Truly plug n play. No need for special cable to program or bind to ECU. Simply mount it, connect the wire harness, turn ignition on and program it using the selector button on the side of the dash. I love how easy it is to set the odometer to the correct mileage and it supports many features depending on what the bikes ECU can do. I was pleasantly surprised to see that on my 2005 Heritage, it displays mileage, trip A&B, time, miles remaining till refueling and tachometer readings. The bright orange needle shows up very well and lights up along with the numbers and scales. The back lighting is a yellowish orange. This speedometer looks better and works better than my original OEM speedometer.

Fit and finish was excellent and setting up was easy.

my speedometer is shorted and will not allow the bike to turn on without blowing fuse. will this work without having the stock speedometer to get the information from.

Assuming the problem is within the speedo you're replacing then yes, it should work just fine in place of the OEM speedometer. If the problem is ECU-related &etc., then this might not work for your needs. The speedometer does require some work on your part to set it up, but the included instructions will show you how to configure odometer settings &etc. It's not difficult to get it up and running on your bike.
